Little Red House By The Sea

I've been working on these little darlings for a while now between my other projects, and I'm happy to say that they are finally complete. I made a set of 8 and a 5 section runner for one Christmas gift, and a set of 6 for another Christmas gift. I'm thankful that the second recipient has a round table that seats only 6! These placemats are 14 1/2 inches high by 23 1/2 inches long. Years ago I made a similar set of placemats using a pattern found in this book: However that was before I bought this little beauty. Rug hooking. That’s what you thought right? We had to come to St. John’s because I had an appointment. That has allowed us to spend some time with our granddaughter, which is awesome. We also did the Costco thing and some maintenance stuff on the house. But now I have some down time, and I didn’t bring my sewing machine, so tonight I hook. The pattern is one I bought years ago, and unfortunately I can’t remember the name or the designer. I was first introduced to rug hooking about 15 years ago using T-shirt material, but I really didn’t enjoy it. Last winter a friend encouraged me to take another short course, this time using wool, and I was hooked! Baby Rachel got a rug. Then I stopped again in favour of sewing. But there is a biweekly hook-in afternoon in Eastport that I wanted to join, so I dug out the burlap pattern I had started with T-shirt’s, pulled out what I had hooked, and took out my Briggs and Little wool again. Dieting is a daily struggle for me as those of you who know me know. I try to watch what I eat, and I do wonderful until about 7 pm. Then... But on to a great new discovery I made a week ago that will help when my willpower reasserts itself. 3 points. That's all. 3 points. I have been having this sandwich pretty much every day for lunch since I discovered this great product. And no, I'm not getting paid by the Flatout people! These flatbreads are 3 points and they fold over nicely to make a sandwich. I've grilled them, I've heated them in the microwave, and I've had them straight out of the package. Each is equally delicious. The package in the photo is Rosemary and Olive Oil. I've also tried 5 Grains and Flax, which has 8g of protein and 7g of fibre. As you can see, I added egg this time, mashed with a little mustard, red onion, and orange pepper, for a net filling point value of 0. Gotta love those 0 fillings! I've splurged some day...

I know it has been a long time since I have posted. I do have lots of excuses including my husband's bone marrow transplant (documented at Karlsmultiplemyelomajourney.blogspot.com) and the birth of my first grandchild, beautiful Rachel, who is now almost 3 months old. I absolutely love everything about this little girl, especially her red hair! People who see us together say that she has my hair. Well, not really, but it's the colour I wanted mine to be for 35 years until I worked up the nerve to dye it! I told her that she is so smart for being born with such beautiful hair!
