Reversible Fall Placemat Tutorial - Part 5

The pumpkin sides of each of these placemats are going to be different. The pumpkin in part 5 was made using the 10" half hexi template. These 2 are made with the 5" half hexi template. Go ahead and make 2 exactly the same way you made the 10 inch one in part 4. I used a 1 1/4 inch strip between the hexis to make the pumpkins.

Since we have to put the Appliqué stems on, you need at least 1 1/2 inches between the pumpkins, so I added a strip 2" wide. Then I measured what I had and what I needed to make it the height of the already sewn back. I needed a 2 1/2" strip on the top and bottom. 

I wanted the 2 pumpkins to be at least 3" from the right side, so I cut a strip 3 1/4" by the height (14 7/8") and sewed it on. 

That left 11 1/2 inches to be the same width as the back, so I cut a strip 11 3/4" by 14 7/8". 

I sewed, ironed, and added the 2 stems using the method in my Easy Appliqué tutorial. I still have to sew around the edges. 

2 more placemats to go! One will have 3 small pumpkins across the middle, and the other will have 2 small pumpkins on the left side and a 10" pumpkin on the right side. At least that's the plan now! That's tomorrow's sewing.

There is nothing in the world as good as a partridgeberry. AKA lingonberries if you are from Scandinavia. They grow wild here in Newfoundland and at this time of year we take to the woods to get our winter supply. I have to admit I haven't picked any yet this year. Fish ‘n’ Brewis

Twas a great marnin’ on da water...I know first hand because I had to go to be the third person in the boat. I didn’t catch the biggest cod fish, but I did catch the first one! We didn’t see any whales this morning, but I was told that yesterday they saw whales and porpoises. I can’t swear to the authenticity of the story because you know men and their fishing stories lol. So I decided last night that I was going to cook fish 'n' brewis today and use some of the fish I hoped to catch. It's necessary to decide you are going to cook fish 'n' brewis the day before because you have to put the hard bread in water overnight. Hard bread, hard tack...whatever you call it and where ever you get it, it was a staple for our ancestors, mainly the men, when they went in the woods or out sealing. Long time no write!  I haven't updated my blog in far too long. I have a few ideas tossing around in my head, and it may lead to more blog entries. That will depend upon me finding the time.
